This is an excerpt from one of Victor Zammit's newsletters. I am posting it because there is a growing interest in spirituality, and people seem to be searching for something that traditional religion doesn't offer. This is not a bad thing, but dangerous cults are out there with their arms open wide. I've had some experiences with a cult myself, and I thank God that I was able to escape from their clutches basically unharmed. Not everyone is so lucky.

I’ve had over the years a number of people wanting to know if it’s alright to belong to a cult. No, I repeatedly said. Why not? Because being a member of the cult you have to obey the commands – direct or subtle as they may be given by the guru. He or she will try to make you feel guilty, inadequate and in urgent need of the guru’s help. Guru activities are about brainwashing.
