So Why Fight?

I walked into the den and gave my father a big hug. He took his place in his favorite recliner and I took mine in the chair across from him. Always courteous, my father reached for his remote and muted the sound coming from the television set. One of my father’s best attributes is his habit of giving all visitors his undivided attention.

We would begin various conversations that would last for almost three hours. It was a beautiful time - just father and daughter talking about whatever topic that came up. When the conversation turned to religious and political matters, I didn’t tense up as I often do when talking about these subjects with people. My father has his views and I have mine, and somehow we both respectfully share our views with each other without getting angry.
